Previously, we were building email agents but they never quite worked the way we wanted them to. After talking to devs for months, we realized our agents were never the problem, it was their email infrastructure.
The problems with email today
- Inboxes are expensive: Typical Workspace and Outlooks inboxes cost around $14 on average.
- Provisioning is manual: There isn't a simple API that can spin up inboxes across customers and use cases.
- Hard send limits and rate limits: Agents are designed to scale workflows, but email providers add restrictive rate/send limits that hinder their throughput.
- “Email APIs” are not inboxes: Agents are only as good as their context - for best performance, it needs a real inbox with threads and storage, not just a webhook.
